Gentle Self-Care for Menopause

更年期

Have you ever looked in the mirror in the morning and noticed puffiness in your face, or felt heaviness around your neck?

During menopause, many women begin to notice subtle changes in the body.

“My face doesn’t feel as refreshed as it used to.”

“My neck tension never fully goes away.”

“Even my shoulders feel heavy.”

These sensations are common—and easy to dismiss as simply part of getting older.

But in some cases, tightness around the neck and tension behind the ears may also play a role.

On days like these, a simple self-care ritual can feel surprisingly comforting: gently massaging the area behind the ears and along the neck.

Do you feel tenderness or heaviness behind your ears?

Place your fingertips softly behind your earlobe.

Pause there for a moment.

You may notice that the area feels:

  • slightly tender

  • tight or stiff

  • heavy or swollen

This area can become tense after long hours at a desk, looking down at a phone, poor posture, or everyday fatigue.

It’s often where the body quietly holds stress.

A simple routine you can do in under a minute

This gentle self-care takes only a few seconds.

1. Place your fingers behind the earlobe

Using your index and middle fingers, lightly rest them just behind your earlobe.

2. Move gently up and down

With very light pressure, massage the area in a soft upward and downward motion.

There’s no need to press deeply.

Think of it as softening the area rather than pushing through it.

3. Breathe deeply for 10–20 seconds

Relax your shoulders and continue breathing slowly.

Then repeat on the other side.

Gentle is enough

Self-massage doesn’t need to be strong to be effective.

A soft touch.

A slower breath.

A little more ease through the neck and jaw.

That can be enough.

You can do this after washing your face in the morning, during your skincare routine at night, or whenever you feel tension building during the day.

Just a few quiet seconds of attention can sometimes shift how your whole body feels.

Small rituals can bring comfort

Menopause can be a season of change—for the body, the mind, and energy levels.

Which is why self-care doesn’t always need to be about fixing something.

Sometimes it begins with simply noticing.

Placing your fingers behind your ears.Taking one deep breath.Giving your body a moment of care.

If your face feels puffy or your neck feels heavy, this may be a gentle place to begin.

If you experience strong pain, swelling, lumps, fever, or ongoing discomfort, please speak with a healthcare professional.

Editor’s Note

Self-care doesn’t always need to be complicated.

Sometimes it starts with something very small—pausing, placing your hand on your body, and taking a breath.

A gentle touch behind the ears can become a quiet daily ritual.

May these small moments bring softness, comfort, and ease to your everyday life.
