A new destination connecting food and lifestyle has opened in Basel, Switzerland.

On 18 September 2026, Tanja Grandits, the chef behind the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Stucki, opened her new concept store, “ava”, along the Rhine.

The store offers a selection of original tea blends, chocolates and baked goods, alongside tableware crafted by local ceramic artists and wooden trays made by regional artisans.

From cuisine to tableware, and from the restaurant to the home.

We explore a new world of food and design created by one of Switzerland’s leading chefs.

Bring Tanja Grandits’ Culinary World into Your Home

Tanja Grandits’ Culinary World

Your favourite granola for breakfast.

A fragrant cup of tea with chocolate in the afternoon.

And a moment to enjoy an apéro in the evening.

Beyond the special dining experience of a restaurant, the chef’s culinary world becomes part of everyday life.

At “ava”, the selection includes aromatic tea blends, chocolates created by chef-pâtissier Julien Duvernay, handmade apéro snacks and sablés, nut granola with cinnamon blossoms, and freshly baked goods from the company’s own bakery in Dornach.

At the heart of the store is a collection of original products that reflect Tanja Grandits’ culinary vision.

A Table for All Five Senses, Crafted with Local Artisans

One of the highlights of the new store is its collaboration with local artisans. Tanja Grandits placed particular importance on working with small businesses in the region during product development.

Drawing on her ideas and suggestions, local ceramicists created matcha cups. The collaborations also resulted in finely crafted porcelain, wooden trays made by a carpenter, and postcards designed by an artist. For readers familiar with Japanese food culture, the inclusion of matcha cups is particularly interesting.

A Swiss chef’s ideas take shape in the hands of local ceramicists. Through a single cup, different food cultures and craftsmanship come together.

The choice of tableware can transform the atmosphere of a dining table.

The texture of a plate, the feel of a cup in your hands, and the combination of colours across the table all contribute to the dining experience.

Where possible, the products feature the fennel blossom, Tanja Grandits’ signature logo. The same motif also appears on a hand-sewn linen apron.

The chef’s aesthetic extends from her cuisine to tableware and everyday objects.

At “ava”, the entire dining table becomes part of the experience of enjoying food.

A New Riverside Address in Full Colour

“ava” has opened in Basel’s St. Johann district, in a building overlooking the Rhine.

The approximately 150-square-metre store is filled with natural light streaming through large, gridded windows. Soft pink furnishings define the interior, from floor-to-ceiling shelving to a multi-tiered counter in the same shade. A coral-coloured refrigerator adds a vibrant accent, while oak parquet flooring brings the different elements together. The combination of colours and materials creates a warm, elegant atmosphere.

Speaking about the new store, Tanja Grandits says:

“I want this to be a place where everyone who loves good food, high-quality materials and thoughtful design feels at home.”

The name “ava” comes from Romansh, one of Switzerland’s national languages, and means “water”.

Views of the river, the tranquillity of the neighbourhood and a carefully curated selection of products.

The store’s interior reflects a vision of enriching everyday life through food, with thoughtful design extending to every corner of the space.

Bringing New Colour to the Table

The chef behind a two-Michelin-starred restaurant has now extended her culinary vision to the everyday dining table.

Enjoying products created by the chef, choosing tableware crafted by local artisans and arranging the table in your own style. The aesthetic developed in the restaurant becomes part of life at home.

Great food is only part of the experience. The time spent around the table and the atmosphere in which a meal is shared matter just as much.

This attention to the entire dining experience is one of the pleasures of Switzerland’s dining culture.

If you find yourself in Basel, visit “ava” along the Rhine and explore Tanja Grandits’ vision of food and lifestyle.

Who Is Tanja Grandits?

Tanja Grandits is one of Switzerland’s leading female chefs.

She has been independent since 2001 and now runs a business employing more than 60 people, centred around her restaurant Stucki in Basel.

In September 2025, she opened her second restaurant, Schlüssel, in Oberwil near Basel. With a more relaxed dining concept, the restaurant focuses on seasonal cuisine.

Editors’ Note

What caught our attention was the collaboration between Tanja Grandits and local artisans.

From matcha cups to wooden trays, the chef’s ideas take shape through craftsmanship. We are particularly drawn to the way her creative vision extends from cuisine to tableware and everyday objects.

“ava” brings together those who create food and those who craft the objects that enrich the dining table. It is a place we hope to visit one day.
