Zug is often known for its lake, quiet old town, and refined quality of life.
But beyond its calm streets and mountain views, the city also has another side: international, colourful, and shaped by people from all over the world.
On Saturday, 5 September 2026, Fest der Nationen will bring this diversity to life along the lakeside promenade in Zug.
With music, dance, food, and cultural encounters from around the world, the festival offers a lively glimpse into the many communities that call the canton of Zug home.
140 Nations, One Zug
According to the official event information, people from more than 140 nations live in Zug. Fest der Nationen celebrates this diversity through an open, welcoming event by the lake.
The festival is organised by Fachstelle Migration Zug together with more than 30 cultural and migrant associations. It brings together people of different backgrounds who live in the canton of Zug, creating a space for dialogue, community, and shared celebration.
For visitors, it is also a beautiful way to experience Zug beyond the usual image of business, lakeside living, and quiet Swiss elegance.
Here, the city becomes a meeting place.
Languages, traditions, music, and food come together in one public space, turning the lakeside promenade into a small journey around the world.
Music, Dance, and Food from Around the World
The programme includes performances on both a large stage and a smaller stage, with music and dance from many different cultural communities.
Visitors can expect a wide range of performances, from alphorn music and traditional Swiss dances to Serbian children’s dances, Indian classical dance, Ukrainian folk dances, Filipino Tinikling bamboo dance, flamenco, Portuguese folk traditions, and more.
A Japanese element is also part of the programme: the Japanese dance group Dento Geino Aikokai is scheduled to perform a Japanese summer dance.
That is what makes the event so appealing.
You do not need to know much in advance. You can simply arrive, walk by the lake, stop when a sound catches your attention, try a dish you have never tasted before, and discover a culture through movement, rhythm, and hospitality.
A Free and Open Event for All Ages

Fest der Nationen is a free and open event, welcoming families, friends, residents, newcomers, and visitors of all ages.
The official event page notes that around 20,000 people attended the 2023 edition, making it one of Zug’s liveliest cultural events.
There is also a children’s programme planned in the afternoon, including crafts, face painting, international storytelling, and rugby training for children.
For families, it can be an easy and relaxed way to spend a Saturday in Zug.For visitors, it offers something different from a typical sightseeing route.
And for people who live in Switzerland, it is a reminder that local culture is not fixed or singular. It is something continuously shaped by the people who live there.
A September Day by Lake Zug
Early September is a lovely time to visit Zug.
The brightness of summer is still present, but the season has begun to soften. The lake, the promenade, the old town, and the mountain views create a beautiful setting for a cultural festival.
Fest der Nationen gives visitors a reason to slow down and stay a little longer.
Come for the music.Stay for the food.Walk by the lake. And discover the many voices that make Zug more than just a quiet Swiss town.
On 5 September 2026, Zug becomes a place where the world meets by the water.
