mixsoon Galactomyces Toner | Simple Fermented Skincare
Author:Mariko Sugihara

There is something enjoyable about taking your time at a department store beauty counter, browsing products and choosing what to try next.
But as my lifestyle has changed, I have become much more conscious of how I spend both my time and money. These days, what I want from skincare is surprisingly simple: well-chosen ingredients and a routine that does not feel complicated.
With that in mind, I’m introducing mixsoon’s Galactomyces Toner, a product for anyone looking to keep their skincare simple and easy to maintain over time.
I know hydration matters, but I have never really enjoyed thick, rich toners that leave a sticky feeling on the skin. On the other hand, when my skin does not feel sufficiently hydrated, it can become dry or seem oilier than usual. For those who want hydration without a heavy finish, galactomyces may be an ingredient worth exploring.
What Is Galactomyces?
Galactomyces is a type of yeast used in fermentation, including in sake brewing. It belongs to the genus Galactomyces within the Saccharomycetaceae family. When this yeast is fermented in a culture medium and the microorganisms themselves are removed through filtration, the resulting liquid is known as Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate.
During the fermentation process, components associated with hydration, including amino acids, organic acids, and substances related to the skin’s natural moisturizing factors, are produced. For this reason, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is often used in skincare products designed to help improve the appearance of skin texture and pores.
The ingredient is also widely associated with the well-known story of Japanese sake brewers, or toji, whose hands were observed to remain remarkably smooth despite years of demanding work. Because their hands were frequently exposed to yeast during the brewing process, this observation is said to have inspired further research into fermented skincare ingredients. Today, Galactomyces is also used in popular products from major prestige beauty brands in Japan, making it one of the better-known fermentation-derived skincare ingredients.
I was drawn to the ingredient itself and, for a time, used a toner from a well-known brand that also contained Galactomyces. However, it was not exactly an easy product to keep repurchasing, and I also began to notice that availability could vary depending on where I lived.
That led me to look for something simpler: a straightforward product I could continue using without too much effort, wherever I happened to be. That is how I came across mixsoon, a brand that focuses on simple formulations and products that feel easy to incorporate into an everyday routine.
Founded in Korea in 2020, mixsoon follows a “minimal beauty” philosophy, aiming to keep formulations simple by reducing unnecessary ingredients and focusing on key ingredients the skin needs. In this toner, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate makes up 98% of the formula, according to mixsoon’s official Korean website, making it a clear reflection of the brand’s minimalist approach.
My Experience Using mixsoon Galactomyces Toner
I use this toner every morning and evening.
My favourite way to apply it is to mist it onto my skin and gently press it in with my hands, repeating the process a few times. For the past few months, I have been transferring it into a spray bottle, which makes this method especially easy. The texture is extremely light and watery — so light, in fact, that at first I wondered whether it would provide enough hydration.
After layering it a few times, however, my skin feels noticeably softer and more comfortably hydrated. I also appreciate that it does not leave the kind of sticky finish that can make the hair around my face cling to my skin, something I often notice with thicker toners.
When I wake up in the morning, my skin tends to feel hydrated without looking excessively oily. More than anything, I like the subtle sense that my skin feels calm and balanced, which is why I have continued using it.
I also like pairing it with the Galactomyces Ferment Essence from the same range. When I apply the essence first and follow with the toner, my skin feels more comfortably hydrated than when I use the toner alone. It works perfectly well on its own, but I find that using the two together makes the qualities of each product easier to appreciate.
What I Liked About mixsoon Galactomyces Toner
Despite its high concentration of Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, it has no noticeable or unusual scent and is easy to use.
It is relatively easy to purchase online.
The texture is light and watery, yet it leaves my skin feeling comfortably hydrated without a sticky finish.
What to Keep in Mind About mixsoon Galactomyces Toner
If you prefer rich, thicker toners, you may find the texture a little too light.
If you look for multiple active ingredients and functions in a single toner, the minimalist formula may feel too simple.
